Our Giving Philosophy
We believe that charitable giving should be intentional, transparent, and rooted in community need. Our charitable giving strategy focuses on initiatives that foster financial empowerment, community resilience, and inclusive growth.
In 2024, our team proudly contributed:
- 3,171 volunteer hours, supporting over 34 local organizations and creating an estimated $105,209 in local economic impact.
- $36,930 in direct donations, including support for food security, youth development, and emergency assistance programs.
- Active participation in the Campaign for Ending Hunger, helping raise $1.3 million statewide to combat food insecurity.
Our giving is not just financial—it’s personal. From mentoring at-risk youth and supporting foster care transitions, to expanding financial literacy in correctional facilities and local schools, our employees lead with heart and purpose. Programs like the Youth Empowerment Accounts and the Credit Builder Program exemplify our belief in the power of education and second chances.
We believe that small acts, when multiplied by many, create lasting change. Whether through payroll deductions, hands-on service, or strategic partnerships, Midcoast FCU remains steadfast in our commitment to uplift our neighbors and strengthen the fabric of our community.
Together, we are more than a credit union—we are a catalyst for good.

Evaluation Criteria for Future Giving
To ensure our charitable contributions are impactful and aligned with our mission, all financial donation requests will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
1) Mission Alignment
The organization’s purpose and the proposed initiative must align with Midcoast FCU’s mission and core values, particularly in promoting financial wellness, education, and community resilience.
2) Geographic Relevance
Priority will be given to organizations and initiatives that directly serve the counties within our field of membership: Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo.
3) Community Impact
Requests must demonstrate a clear and measurable benefit to the community, with preference for programs that address systemic challenges or serve vulnerable populations.
4) Partnership Potential
We value long-term relationships. Preference will be given to organizations that offer opportunities for employee engagement, volunteerism, or collaborative programming.
5) Organizational Accountability
Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits or equivalent, with transparent financial practices and a track record of responsible stewardship.
6) Equity and Inclusion
